Get to know a few of your neighbors this Earth Week—the Okanagan’s native tree species! We’ll collect hints from bark, leaves, cones, flowers, fruit, and habitat that you can bring with you in your future exploration of the valley. This beginner-friendly tree identification workshop will use samples, photos, and a short walk around Memorial park to introduce the most common trees you’ll find around our local dry slopes and shady streams.
About the presenter:
Ivy Hiebert is a local Summerland resident with a wealth of knowledge on biodiversity. They earned a BSc in Forest Biology from the University of Victoria, before gaining valuable experience through their work in agroecology and tree fruit breeding at Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada, and in forest stewardship and soil sciences at Ntityix Resources. Ivy is passionate about making science and natural history accessible and interesting to the public; a conviction that was realized when they created a wonderful biodiversity exhibit at the museum during their time here as Collection Intern in 2024/25.
