Securing our past for the future

Your donations make a difference.

As a small museum, we make the most we can out of what we have by focusing on providing programs and resources for our community.

We intend to keep Summerland’s history safe and accessible for all, but we need your help.

Donating through PayPal Giving Fund means we receive 100% of your donation and you receive an official donation receipt. It’s a win-win!

The Summerland Museum and Archives Society is hoping to digitize the remainder of our microfilm copies of the Summerland Review newspapers, from July 1967 to December of 2007. Papers from 1909 to June of 1967 (minus the years from 1929 - 1946 when the paper was not in publication) have already been digitized and are available for public consultation at www.summerlandmuseum.org or bcrdh.ca. These digitized newspapers have great value for public research and are widely used by our community and beyond.

Digitizing the remainder of the newspapers will cost roughly $20,000. The cost includes outsourcing the digitization for professional scanning, OCR conversion, and ingestion. We are applying for grants to cover 50% of the project costs but will need to fundraise the other 50% ($10,000) ourselves. In the event that we don't raise the full amount, we will still pursue digitizing what we can with the money raised.

If you believe in our project, please consider leaving a donation. Even small amounts get us closer to our goal.
